Maine Coon Grooming

Maine Coons are known for their luxurious, semi-long coats and impressive size, but their grooming needs are often more manageable than people expect. Unlike some long-haired breeds, their fur has a silky texture that is less prone to matting—however, regular care is still essential to keep them looking and feeling their best.

We recommend brushing your Maine Coon two to three times a week using a high-quality comb or slicker brush. This helps remove loose hair, prevent tangles, and reduce shedding around the home. During seasonal changes—especially in spring and autumn—you may need to increase brushing frequency as they shed more heavily.

Pay special attention to areas prone to matting, such as behind the ears, under the legs, and around the belly. Gentle, consistent grooming from a young age will help your kitten become comfortable with the process and make it an enjoyable bonding experience.

In addition to coat care, routine grooming should include:

Regular nail trimming

Ear checks and cleaning if needed

Occasional baths (only when necessary), using a cat-safe shampoo

Maine Coons are naturally clean cats, and with a simple grooming routine, their coats will stay healthy, soft, and beautiful. Establishing these habits early ensures your cat grows into a well-maintained and happy companion.
